Manu Prefab has started to work on prefabricated, post and beam projects more than six years ago. With a production facility based in Indonesia we not only have access to some of the best artisans and woodworkers in the world but also to a huge source of premium tropical building materials.
Local artisans and craftsman
Our Javanese carpenters have an old family tradition of constructing post and beam houses in their East Javanese villages. Each larger compound has usually a group of man who are in charge of the construction and maintenance of their family compound and temple. In our team we employ the whole range of the traditional trades from our master carpenters, wood carvers and stone carvers to specialist natural fiber weavers.
Traditional Asian Joinery and Designs
The Manu Prefab timber frame designs are based on the post and beam structural system. Also called "post and lintel," this is one of the oldest construction methods known. Manu Prefab uses solid timbers and traditional Asian joinery wherever possible, and only uses hidden steel connectors, not visible on the inside of the building, when required to meet a local building code. Most of the connections are based on different variations of wooden mortise and tenon joinery.
Tropical Building Materials
Manu Prefab purchases hardwood logs only from first-hand registered traders. We then supervise kiln drying and milling operations to get a satisfying ratio between product quality and sawn timber recovery rate. Timber material is supplied in grade A with a clean smooth grain, and no heartwood or sapwood. After planning, finely sanded components are protected with an oil based resin finish. Building with high-grade raw material that combines exceptional aesthetic and mechanical properties adds significant value to your project.
Sustainability
We are fully aware about illegal logging practices not only in Indonesia but also in Costa Rican forests. We therefor prefer to use recycled material whenever feasible and purchase our raw material only from registered Forest Concessions.
