Dominical Fishing

Costa Rica fishing is best known for its sailfish, some reaching up to 220 pounds. Much of the country's original tourism was based on competitive sport fishing excursions. On a typical fishing trip you will find remarkable fishing and will almost always see dolphins, sea turtles and, during the right season, migrating whales.

Offshore sport fishing in the Central Pacific is well respected among professional sportsmen and casual fisherman. Dominical is located in the heart of the region where the best sailfish breed and spawn. We fish 30 miles offshore at the Furuno Banks, the very same area visited by the sport fishing tours that are operated out of Quepos. The depths of the water can range from 100 feet to over 6000 feet! A perfect place for the sailfish to feed. No matter if you are a competitive fisherman or just an onlooker, there is nothing more spectacular than watching the stupendous leap of the sailfish as it bursts from the water and dances through the air.  If you do not feel like hauling in 220 pounds of determined muscles you can easily come across less feisty but tasty alternatives such as Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna or Marlin depending on the season. You can also fish inshore year-round for Mackerel, Jack, Roosterfish, Red Snapper and Corvina.

Fishing Trip Description

You will leave from Dominicalito  (just 10min south of Dominical) early in the morning for the Furuno Banks. The boot is a 21 foot Mako with twin 90hp Honda 4-strokes, and it can carry up to 6 people.  The boat is relatively quiet and odorless and has some shade options for peak sun hours. The fishing equipment is Penn International II & Fin-Nor tackle. Depending on the ocean conditions there is always the option to go inshore or offshore for a day.
